Amelia Island Is The
Perfect Family Getaway

Amelia Island FloridaAmelia Island's 13 miles of pristine and uncrowded beaches provide lots of activities for families to enjoy. You can ride a bike on the beach, go horseback riding, hunt for ancient shark teeth, enjoy a picnic, go sailing, kayaking, surfing and of course swimming and snorkeling.

Boating and fishing are two favorite activities of visitors to Amelia Island. You can fish off the beaches and off the dedicated fishing bridge that is located at the south-end tip of Amelia Island or charter a boat for a fishing excursion. Boating allows you the chance to see marine life such as Manatees, dolphins and a wide array of wildlife.

In December the endangered Northern Right Whales give birth to their young just off of Amelia Island's shores. With only 300 Northern Right Whales left in the world, visitors and boats are not allowed within 500 yards of the whales. They can be seen from the coastline and are even known to come close to shore once their babies are born.

For golfers Amelia Island has seven championship quality courses to choose from. A miniture golf course provides fun quality time for families to enjoy. Island Falls Adventure Golf has cascading waterfalls, wooden bridges, streams and tropical landscaping for a relaxing enjoyable setting.

Dining options are varied from upscale and gourmet dining to Dairy Queen and Pizza Hut. For a fun family-oriented meal go to Sliders Seaside Grill located on the beach at the corner of Sadler Road and South Fletcher Avenue. They have a playground adjacent to the beach that is fenced in for the kids to enjoy.

Be sure to visit Historic Downtown Fernandina Beach. This Victorian seaport village has small town charm within the 55 block historic district. You can enjoy ice cream, homemade fudge, a horse-drawn carriage ride and browsing in quaint shops. You'll also find coffee cafes, antique shops, specialty boutiques and art galleries.
