SeaWorld Orlando Family Vacation

Sea World OrlandoOpened in 1973, SeaWorld Orlando is home to thrilling rides as well as beautifully choreographed shows, including the highly popular Shamu Adventure show that stars Shamu, SeaWorld's mascot killer whale, and his many friends. Some attractions even allow you to touch or feed the marine life - what an experience!

More than 80 million visitors have explored the
200 acres marine adventure park and it's new state-of-the-art rides such as "Kraken" and "Journey To Atlantis" and the amazing animal encounters include killer whales, dolphins, sea lions, stingrays and more.

Sea World is usually less crowded than Orlando's other theme parks. Still you need to arrive early and set aside an entire day to cover all the attractions the park has to offer. In terms of scale and creativity, the world's most popular marine life adventure park is the right on par with any of Orlando's other theme parks.

Most of the presentations are walk-through exhibits or sit-down stadium shows. The stadiums seat so many that finding a good spot is seldom a problem. But beware that if you sit near the front you may get wet. During peak season, head for the Wild Arctic, Journey to Atlantis, Shark Encounter and Kraken attractions early in the day as they get very crowded later on and form long lines.

SeaWorld Animal Attractions

The meticulously designed habitats at SeaWorld offer a rare look at marine creatures such as dolphins, penguins, and sharks, as they would be in their natural settings.

Key West at SeaWorld
One of the park's most visited animal attractions, Key West at SeaWorld is a tropical paradise featuring animals of the Florida Keys. Spread over 5 acres the attraction's Dolphin Cove and Stingray Lagoon are home to several bottlenose dolphins and more than 200 stingrays - some spanning five feet in diameter. At Dolphin Cove, guests can feed the dolphins during designated times throughout the day. Dolphin Nursery is home to new dolphin mothers and their calves. The nursery is one of the most popular attractions at the park and gives guests the rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of new dolphin mothers and their calves.

At Turtle Point various species of endangered and threatened sea turtles can be seen, and an underwater viewing area offers a peek at a beautiful coral reef. These prehistoric-looking reptiles reside in a natural lagoon complete with a beach, sand dunes and indigenous plant life.

Pacific Point Preserve is designed as a replica of the Northern Pacific coast. This 2 acre area has many beaches and rocky outcroppings. Here you can enjoy the antics of sea lions, harbor seals, and fur seals as they play. Don't miss the highly entertaining feeding sessions. Check at the information desk for timings.

Manatee Rescue offers an up close and personal look at these doleful and appealing animals. This highly educational exhibit includes a film show. Injured manatees are often brought to the park by an animal rescue team, where these endangered animals receive care before being released back into Florida waters.

Penguin Encounter is a re-creation of the polar regions. This glacial terrain is covered with snow and the air is a chilly 30 degrees and the water an icy 45 degrees. Four species of penguins - king, gentoo, chinstrap and rockhopper - waddle along the rocky cliffs and swim gracefully in the icy waters. A 120-ft long moving walkway passes through the habitat and gives guests a close view of the birds.

Shark Encounter is a walk through underwater tunnel surrounded by hair-raising creatures such as poisonous fish, scary barracudas, creepy eels and predatory sharks. The tunnel is made of acrylic and is 60 feet long offering a close but safe look at these dangerous animals.
